There’s a new tallest dog on the block, and his name is Kevin. Guinness World Records certified that Kevin, a Great Dane from West Des Moines, Iowa, is officially the world’s tallest living dog.

Contrary to popular belief, a dog’s height is not measured while a dog stands on his back paws like a human’s. After all, you don’t see many dogs strolling around town that way. Instead, a dog’s height is measured from the bottom of his feet to his withers, which is a fancy word for top of the shoulder blades.

Using this criteria, Kevin measures at a height of 3 feet, 2 inches, which is about the size of a three-year-old human and just three inches shorter than the former reigning tallest dog and fellow Great Dane Zeus, who sadly passed away due to bone cancer in 2023.

Kevin happily lives with his owners Tracy and Roger Wolfe as well as his human siblings Alexander and Ava. The Wolfe family are animal lovers, owning three dogs and four cats as well as chickens, goats, and horses. Tracy also manages the Animal Medical Clinic of Merle Hay, based in Des Moines.

s you can see, Kevin loves to snuggle, and he usually forgets his own size, especially when the vacuum cleaner comes out.

“He is terrified of the vacuum,” Wolfe told Guinness. “He won’t let it come within six feet of him! He will jump and run to get away from it.”

Despite his scaredy cat tendencies, Kevin has quite a fearless namesake, named after Kevin McCallister of the “Home Alone” movie universe. And he also reminds his mama of someone extra special, her late Great Dane Cora.

“Both were black mantle Danes,” Tracy says.

Great Danes can be black, blue, fawn, gray, and white and boast a variety of coat patterns. In addition to being as tall as a toddler, Great Danes can weigh as much as a human, with the breed’s weight averaging between 110 and 175 pounds. But despite their massive size, Great Danes are calm, loyal, and can be easy to train.

If you are looking for a ginormous pup of your own, make sure to plan ahead, as extra large dogs can cost your family a pretty penny when you factor in vet bills and all the extra food they need because, well, they’re extra large!
